Event Information
ANNOUNCEMENT: The main venue for the Temple Grandin presentation is SOLD OUT. We are now offering general admission (not reserved) seating for the Doudna Fine Arts Center Lecture Hall just across the hall from the main venue, which is being used as an overflow venue. These seats are all $10 each. While you will not be in the main hall during the presentation, you will experience the event via closed circuit audio/video and have an opportunity to meet Temple during the post-presentation book signing. Diagnosed with autism in 1950, Temple Grandin is recognized around the world for her animal welfare and autism advocacy. Her book Emergence: Labeled Autistic stunned the world because, until its publication, most professionals and parents assumed that an autism diagnosis was virtually a death sentence to achievement or productivity in life. In addition to being a doctor of animal science and professor at Colorado State University, Temple Grandin is a bestselling author, and consultant on animal behavior for firms such as Burger King, McDonald's, Swift, and others. Her fascinating life, with all its challenges and successes has been brought to the screen in the recent award-winning HBO movie, Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes. She has been featured on NPR (National Public Radio), major television programs, such as the BBC special "The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow", ABC's Primetime Live, The Today Show, Larry King Live, 48 Hours and 20/20, and has been written about in many national publications, such as Time, People, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, and The New York Times. Dr. Grandin's visit is a fundraising event sponsored by the EIU Communication Disorders & Sciences, the EIU Humanities Center, the Lynch Humanities Lecture Series Fund, and the Doudna Fine Arts Center.
